Brittany Rocks III - Christianity

Description

Third part of a sort of triptych (triskele, in this particular case ;)) I painted for my mom's birthday. As she and my dad invited us on holidays in Brittany twice in the past two years, it seemed appropriate both as a thank-you and as a birthday present.
The title is a rather sorry pun on the phrase "that rocks!" and, well, rocks. You know, like, stones? As in, the rocks of Brittany's specialness. One of these rocks (fundaments?) is Christianity. France as such is a very secular state, but Breton culture is extremely deeply rooted in Catholicism and features various unique Christian traditions (and a lot of saints nobody outside Brittany has ever heard of, such as Tugdual, Guirec or - my favourite, obviously - Maglor).

Based on the little chapel of St. Samson between Trégastel and Plemeur-Bodou. This particular Samson is a Welsh monk who emigrated to Brittany in the 6th century. We more or less accidentally discovered it while geocaching and found it very picturesque, so I chose this one from the hundreds of chapels and cathedrals we saw on our vacation. As Samson is counted among the Seven Founder Saints of Brittany, his chapel also happens to fit well with the theme of this triptych.

Oh wow, I love this series! It's a fantastic concept, and the palette is some of my favorite colors. The sky is marvelous. Brittany looks like a gorgeous place. I'd love to visit someday.
