Description
First part of a sort of triptych (triskele, in this particular case ) I painted for my mom's birthday. As she and my dad invited us on holidays in Brittany twice in the past two years, it seemed appropriate both as a thank-you and as a birthday present.
The title is a rather sorry pun on the phrase "that rocks!" and, well, rocks. You know, like, stones? As in, the rocks of Brittany's specialness. One of these rocks (fundaments?) is the forces of nature - the primeval volcanic eruptions that brought forth the Breton granite, the sea with its (often spectacular) tides, or the dramatic and changeful weather.
This one is loosely based on one of the many spectacular rock formations of the Côte d'Armor, near Plougrescant. I cheated a bit and combined it with another photo, where I liked the vegetation better. So strictly speaking, this is composed of two different beach views that don't exist in real life. Oh well. Artistic license and all that! If I'd wanted the real landscape, I could've stuck with the original photo

Da bringst du mich ja fast dazu, mich für die Küsten der Bretragne zu interessieren – und das bei meiner tiefschürfenden Aversion gegen alles Französische .
